6th-8th Grade School Year Lead Teacher

The K-8 Lead Teacher is responsible for the leading a classroom of students enrolled in the K-8 After-School program. The Lead Teacher is responsible for planning and implementing lessons that include project-based learning for academic and life skills enrichment in a state-of-the-art, high-quality school aged childcare center.

This position is only funded for the school year and follows the School District of Philadelphia schedule. This position has the option to transfer into a summer camp Lead Teacher position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead daily classroom activities:
  • Plan and implement daily lesson plans designed to provide after school enrichment increasing literacy, STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) and life skills
  • Manage classroom literacy activities by tracking student literacy software usage and implementing and tracking literacy interventional supports
  • Plan and implement at least 2 project-based learning units, including a culminating event, during the school year
  • Collaborate with Manager, the K-8 staff team and teachers to ensure that students' individualized needs are appropriately addressed
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Teacher in delivery of lessons and activities
  • Maintain accurate student records
  • Assist in recruitment and retention of students for K-8 program
  • Assist with student transportation to the program, as needed
  • Assist with planning, arranging and supervising students on field trips
  • Compliance with licensure and accreditation regulations
  • Participate in required professional development programs
  • Participate in required staff meetings and parent meetings
  • Maintain required program documentation, postings, binders and first kit at all times


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Human Services or other related fields, or equivalent experience (4 years). Proof of Education (diploma or transcript) required
  • Minimum 1 year validated childcare experience
  • Minimum 1-year teaching and lesson planning experience
  • FBI, Criminal History, Child Abuse and National Sex Offender Registry clearance required
  • Health Assessment with negative TB test required

What Qualifications or Experience You May Bring:

  • Experience working within and uplifting communities directly affected by systemic racism
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record
  • Experience planning lesson and activity planning for School aged children
  • Experience using Outlook and Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Awareness of developmental needs of elementary school students
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with staff, students, and parents

Physical requirements:

ACTIVE WORK INVOLVED IN THE CARE OF CHILDREN. INCLUDES WALKING, CLIMBING STAIRS, KNEELING, AND DRIVING (IF APPLICABLE). EXERTING UP TO 20 POUNDS OF FORCE OCCASIONALLY AND/OR NEGLIGIBLE AMOUNT OF FORCE TO LIFT, CARRY, PUSH, PULL OR OTHERWISE MOVE OBJECTS. REQUIRES THE ABILITY TO OPERATE STANDARD OFFICE EQUIPMENT AND KEYBOARDS. MUST BE ABLE TO WALK SHORT DISTANCES (1 MILE OR LESS)
