Job Summary: The primary responsibility of the General Accountant – Managed Entities is to prepare and input the month-end closing journal entries, monthly balance sheet account analysis, and bank account reconciliations. In addition, the General Accountant performs daily cash management tasks and maintains accuracy of the tenant security deposit escrow accounts.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Month End Close:
- Meet the deadlines on the month-end closing calendar including preparing & entering journal entries, generating recurring entries, and reconciling bank statements.
- Reconcile balance sheets and bank accounts monthly to ensure accurate reporting and timely resolution of reconciling items.
- Populate the monthly rental revenue analyses and review for needed corrections. Collaborate with the Senior Accountant – Property to ensure all corrections are made.
- Respond to ticketing system questions for account analysis and input reclasses in a timely manner.
- Generate monthly management & analysis reports, as requested.
Cash Management:
- Scan checks received in the Accounting office for deposit daily. Reconcile deposit batches to the Cash Receipts log.
- Maintain the tenant security deposit escrow accounts at the bank, including maintaining a current W-9 on file with the bank from each tenant.
- Prepare and input cash transfers into the bank portal for intercompany payments, replacement reserve deposits, withdrawals for capital improvements funding, or other purposes.
Audit, Tax & Other Reporting:
- Prepare & gather requested schedules and supporting documentation for the annual audit.
- Assist in monitoring the real estate taxes for each property, including bringing changes in the assessed value to the attention of the Controller.
- Populate the quarterly operating reports (QORs) required by the regulators and submit to the Accounting Manager – Managed Entities for review.
- Prepare the Managed Entity portion of the annual Project HOME consolidated financial statement.
Other:
- Leverage technology and recommend ways to reduce costs and/or improve efficiency of accounting processes.
- Additional duties as assigned by the Accounting Manager – Managed Entities.
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in accounting, or equivalent experience (2 years).
- At least three (3) years experience in the following areas: accounting department month-end close process, preparing journal entries, preparing balance sheet account analyses, and cash receipts management.
- Strong Excel skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, attention to detail, and strong organizational orientation are required.

- Knowledge of the affordable housing industry
- Experience with Yardi software
