Internal Communications Coordinator

Job Summary: The Internal Communications Coordinator works with our 450 staff and 1000 residents to build and support a learning community by finding innovative ways to communicate and reinforce the vision and mission within the organization; creating channels to keep staff and residents apprised of organizational news, priorities, and goals and progress in meeting them; working closely with the leadership team, Human Resources staff, program staff, Resident Advisory Board, and residents to broadly disseminate information through various platforms, while keeping morale, pride, and cohesion strong and to disseminate correct information.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work with Senior Manager of Mission Nurture & DEIB to design and execute innovative means of reinforcing the mission and communicate the impact of staff's daily work
  • Manage quarterly All-Staff Meetings including facilitating technology, logistics, agenda, and presentation
  • Work with the Resident Leadership Coordinator to design and execute resident engagement and communication, including texting, resident newsletters, management of digital messaging boards, and other tools
  • Update and maintain internal staff portal with timely, relevant, and accurate information
  • Create and distribute monthly resident newsletter, staff e-news and weekly manager's digest
  • Prepare draft emails for Executive Director on timely and important all-staff and all-resident communications
  • Prepare multiple-step communication campaigns for key organizational initiatives to support change management.
  • Interface with Development and others to help share information about our plans and initiatives internally, including sharing relevant press communications, social media posts, etc.
  • Support bi-directional communication between staff, senior leadership, and residents
  • Act as ambassador for the spread of correct information about projects, policies, procedures, and internal activities, including where needed editing policies and procedures to ensure they are clear and grounded in good communication and diversity, equity, and inclusion principles
  • Conduct and regularly refresh communications audit to identify challenges and shape role

Education and Experience Minimum Requirements:

Minimum Experience:

  • B.A. or relevant education and experience
  • 5 years' experience with communications, marketing, or promotion, working across multiple levels of organizations
  • Experience interfacing with people with backgrounds of homelessness and/or poverty and ability to communicate effectively with people from all walks of life
  • Familiarity with mission of Project HOME
  • Understanding of political and social issues surrounding homelessness and poverty
  • Experiencing working with design software and/or web content management


Core Skills:

  • Excellent computer skills, including social media, data management, and excellent MS Teams and Zoom skills.
  • Excellent writing/editing skills with experience in visual design.
  • Ability to edit/ design to make messaging accessible to information consumers at all education levels
  • Communication campaign planning with several layers of messaging.
  • Experience overseeing and managing projects from conception to completion
  • Demonstrated understanding of the role that racial inequity plays in society and homelessness
  • Core platforms this position will use: mailchimp, canva design, Microsoft suite, video editing programs, mass text notification


Physical requirements:

Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.
