The Assistant Teacher assists and provides classroom support in the after-school program with the option to work during summer camp. Assists with daily transportation of students, which can include driving, assisting as a van aide, or walking to local schools to pick up students. Supports student learning and engagement in academic and life skills enrichment in a state-of-the-art, high-quality center.
After-school schedule is Monday- Friday, from 2pm until 6pm.
OPTIONAL: Summer camp schedule is full-time, Monday -Friday, for six weeks through July and August.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Create and nurture a welcoming, supportive and cooperative relationship with children, parents and staff
- Assist Lead Teacher in daily implementation of lesson plans and classroom activities, including working with children one-on-one or in small groups.
- Assist Lead Teacher with tracking student usage of literacy programs.
- Assist with daily transportation of students, which can include driving a van, assisting as a van aide, or walking to and from local schools.
- Plan and/or implement lessons and activities in the Lead Teacher's absence.
- Assist Lead Teacher with the maintenance of an orderly classroom.
- Assist with set-up and clean-up at afterschool mealtime.
- Supervise students on field trips.
- Participate in required professional development programs, staff meetings and parent meetings.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma with at least two years of childcare experience (can include volunteering and tutoring)
- Awareness of developmental needs of elementary school students
- Good communication skills
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- College credits or an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education, Human Services or other related fields with at least 1 year of childcare experience
- Experience planning lessons and activities for elementary aged students
CORE SKILLS:
- Ability to prioritize tasks well.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing
- Excellent interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with staff, students, and parents. Stays calm under pressure.
Requirements for Hire:
- Clearances: FBI Criminal History, PA State Police Criminal History, PA Child Abuse, National Sex Offender Registry (NSOR) Verification. Out-of-State clearances required for applicants who resided outside of Pennsylvania in the last five (5) years
- Completed Childcare Verification Form to verify prior childcare experience
- Proof of Education (diploma and/or transcripts)
- Physical health assessment with negative TB test
Physical requirements:
Active work involved in the care of children. includes walking, climbing stairs, kneeling, and driving.
