Job Summary:

The Substitute Kitchen Coordinator is responsible for supporting the Kitchen Coordinator in ensuring adequate nutritional and dietary standards are met for all residents, including meal preparation, ensuring the kitchen is clean, orderly, well stocked and meeting Health Department standards. Schedule: Weekends, hours vary.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Kitchen Coordinator in providing balanced and complete meals for all residents, including provisions for special needs (vegetarian, diabetic, low sodium, renal disease, food allergies) as well as working to provide good nutrition standards to people who may have health issues per their homeless history. 
  •  Prepare and serve weekend meals and provide support to staff serving weekend meals.
  •  Work with the Kitchen Coordinator and site team to coordinate special resident events, birthdays and holidays.
  • With the Kitchen Coordinator, maintain health and safety standards to ensure compliance with License and Inspection, ServSafe regulatory requirements and adhere to city and state requirements for distribution/cooking of food.
  • Maintain expected equipment standards including proper temperature of cooked food, record temperature of room, freezers, and refrigerators record compliance on daily log.
  •  Inspect kitchen regularly for any needed repairs and/or required maintenance and submit and follow-up on work orders in conjunction with Program Manager or designee.
  •  Communicate to the Kitchen Coordinator/Program Manager any resident concerns or observations that could impact program operations.

Education and Experience Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum Experience:
  • High School Diploma or Equivalency, experience cooking for large groups
  • ServSafe Managerial Certification, must be secured within 90 days of hire
  • Knowledge of balanced menu planning

Preferred Experience:

  • Certificate in culinary arts
  • Valid Pa driver's license

Core Skills:

  • Computer proficiency, good written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with all levels of staff and residents

Physical requirements:

Work that primarily involves standing/walking and some lifting.
