Community Development Associate

The Community Development Associate reports to the Community Development Manager and collaborates with staff K-8, Teen, Adult Learning, Rowan Homes, Stephen Klein Wellness Center and St. Elizabeth's Recovery Residence. This role supports Community Development Program operations at Helen Brown Community Center. They conduct outreach to increase community organizations and residents' knowledge of and access to Project HOME program services and increases awareness of additional resources available in the 19121 and 19132 community.

What You Will Do

  • Enhance and expand the community contacts list - a contact list of neighborhood stakeholders such as community-engaged residents, service recipients, blocks captains, community leaders, businesses, organizations, schools, and churches. The following are some examples of methods of engagement:

  • Develop and produce articles, videos, and other materials for print and social media outreach. The materials will cover topics such as neighborhood matters, diversity, equity and inclusion, and helpful resources for the neighborhood.

  • Assist with outreach to neighborhood stakeholders to ensure awareness of Project HOME services, programs and events in the community through the distribution of newsletters, flyers and other materials.

  • Assist with the planning and facilitation of community events, meetings and programs.

  • Assist with food distribution and other food security projects.

  • Collect data, enter data and notes in the designated file and format, and report on data regarding community contacts and other assigned projects.

  • Be available for some evening or weekend work hours.

  • Assist with other community development tasks

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate's Degree, or equivalent experience (2 years)

  • Minimum two (2) years Human or Social Services experience, specifically working in diverse urban neighborhoods

  • Strong administrative skills, including use of and proficiency in Outlook and Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), desktop publishing, and social media

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

What Qualifications or Experience You May Bring:

  • Valid PA Driver License and clean driving record

  • Familiarity of the Strawberry Mansion, Ridge community

  • Excellent interpersonal skills to engage with all people across all walks of life.
