As a Support Staff team member, you'll help create a safe, welcoming, and recovery-focused living environment for residents experiencing homelessness, behavioral health challenges, and other barriers to stability.

In this role, you'll build supportive relationships with residents, assist with daily operations, promote community engagement, and help maintain the health, safety, and security of the residence. Through compassionate support, crisis intervention, and recovery-oriented engagement, you'll play a key role in helping residents move toward their personal goals and greater independence.

Location: Philly Home at Girard - 2100 W. Girard Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19130
Schedule: Part-Time | Tuesday through Saturday 10:00AM to 2:00PM
Compensation: $19.68/hour

What You'll Do

Maintain Health, Safety & Security

• Monitor access to the building and ensure only authorized individuals enter the site.
• Welcome residents, staff, visitors, and approved delivery personnel while maintaining visitor and delivery logs.
• Conduct routine building rounds and document observations related to resident and facility safety.
• Respond to emergencies, crises, and challenging situations using de-escalation techniques and established protocols.
• Promote a secure and respectful community environment while working independently with on-call support available as needed.

Support Resident Engagement & Recovery

• Build positive, respectful relationships with residents and community members.
• Provide support that recognizes and respects each resident's unique recovery journey.
• Encourage community participation, wellness, and personal growth.
• Facilitate recovery-focused groups, activities, and community-building opportunities.
• Serve as a positive role model and promote a culture of peer support and mutual respect.

Communication & Documentation

• Answer incoming calls, relay messages, and direct communications appropriately.
• Participate in shift-change briefings and communicate important resident or program updates.
• Complete timely and accurate documentation in staff logs, Microsoft Teams, and other designated systems.
• Follow established procedures for communicating with supervisors and on-call staff.

Program & Daily Living Support

• Assist residents with activities of daily living and site-related tasks as needed.
• Support room turnovers, laundry assistance, and preparation for maintenance or extermination services.
• Collect and document program-related fees when required.
• Participate in staff meetings, supervision, trainings, community meetings, and other organizational activities.

Kitchen & Medication Support

• Prepare and serve meals and snacks according to site needs.
• Maintain kitchen cleanliness and assist with kitchen closing duties.
• Support residents in following medication monitoring protocols in accordance with site and program guidelines.

What You'll Need

Education

• High school diploma or GED required.

Experience

• Minimum of one (1) year of experience working in behavioral health, homelessness services, human services, residential programs, or a related field.
• ServSafe Certification required at the time of hire or obtained within 90 days of employment.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to build respectful relationships with residents while maintaining professional boundaries.
• Basic computer and technology proficiency.
• Knowledge of crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and effectively respond to changing situations.
• Commitment to recovery-oriented, person-centered support.

What You May Bring

While not required, the following qualifications may help you succeed in this role:

• Experience working in supportive housing, residential programs, shelters, or behavioral health settings.
• Experience supporting individuals experiencing homelessness, mental health challenges, or substance use disorders.
• Experience facilitating groups, community meetings, or wellness activities.
• Knowledge of trauma-informed care and recovery-oriented practices.
• Food service, meal preparation, or kitchen support experience.
• Experience assisting with medication monitoring procedures.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Teams and electronic documentation systems.
