As a Teen On-Call Instructor, you'll provide engaging, hands-on instruction to high school students enrolled in Project HOME's Teen and College Access after-school program.

This role combines teaching, lesson planning, classroom management, mentorship, and youth development. Instructors develop and facilitate creative, project-based learning experiences that help students build technical skills, explore career pathways, and develop confidence through meaningful learning opportunities.

This position follows the School District of Philadelphia calendar and is funded during the academic school year.

What You'll Do

Teach Engaging STEAM & Creative Electives

• Develop and facilitate engaging lessons for high school students.
• Teach industry-focused electives such as:
• Film
• Photography
• Digital Arts
• Music Production
• Culinary Arts
• Robotics
• Other STEAM-related disciplines
• Create hands-on learning experiences that encourage creativity and exploration.
• Support students in developing completed projects that demonstrate learning and skill development.

Plan & Prepare Instruction

• Develop lesson plans and instructional materials.
• Prepare classroom spaces and technology before each session.
• Maintain organized records of lesson plans and program documentation.
• Incorporate project-based learning and student-centered instructional practices.

Support Student Success

• Foster a positive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment.
• Build strong relationships with students and serve as a positive role model.
• Encourage creativity, participation, and collaboration.
• Monitor student engagement and provide constructive feedback.

Manage Classroom Operations

• Maintain effective classroom management practices.
• Collect and report attendance, engagement, and assessment data.
• Create and implement student assessments.
• Ensure compliance with all program policies and procedures.

Support Career Exploration

• Coordinate industry tours and career exposure opportunities when applicable.
• Help students explore educational and career pathways related to course content.
• Connect learning experiences to real-world applications and industry skills.

What You'll Need

Education

One of the following is required:

• Associate's Degree; or
• Two (2) years of equivalent experience

Proof of education (diploma or transcript) required.

Experience

• Minimum of one (1) year of professional experience in film, photography, or a related creative field.
• Minimum of one (1) year of teaching and lesson planning experience.
• Minimum of three (3) years of verified childcare or youth development experience.
• Experience working with high school-aged youth.

• Pennsylvania Criminal History Clearance
• Child Abuse Clearance
• National Sex Offender Registry Clearance
• Health Assessment with negative TB test

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
