Support Staff ON CALL - Sacred Heart Location


Job Summary

The Support Staff will support residents in achieving their goals that promote recovery, wellness, and successful community living. Support Staff will assist in the development of a culture of recovery and peer support, in which Project HOME alumni and residents are encouraged to build and strengthen relationships with their peers and maximize their use of community resources. The Support Staff will work together with residential staff to support residents in achieving their goals, through the use of support, role modeling, connecting with and using community resources, assisting to build new competencies and other similar activities.  The Support Staff is key to maintaining the peace and quiet enjoyment of the community; assist in orienting new residents to the program & protocols; and maintain security.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain Site Health & Safety Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Allow authorized access to staff, residents, guests, and identified delivery people. Assure that all guests sign the visitor's log
  • Conduct rounds of the building, including checking the safety and security of residents, ensure the building is secure and that monitors are working properly, documenting data in appropriate logs. 
  • Check all exterior doors to make sure they are locked and secured.
  • Maintain awareness at all times and use de-escalation strategies to maintain a calm and welcoming environment.
  • Become familiar with emergency/crisis procedures. Contact emergency services and on-call staff in case of resident emergency or Property emergency (flood, fire), and report any unusual activity
  • Assist residents with key access to their unit when locked out.
  • Participate in Shift Change with person taking over your shift to share information. 
  • Assist residents in taking an active role in their own wellness by helping them implement new habits that promote independent living, health, and wellness.
  • Respectfully engage persons in recovery in a way that recognizes every person's recovery process is unique. Support them in identifying strengths, existing supports, and community resources.
  • Facilitate recovery and community building groups and activities as appropriate. 
  • Assist residents to comply with taking their prescribed medications per medication monitoring policy and protocols.
  • Review medication supply for each resident and alert staff of medications to be called into the pharmacy
  • Allow authorized access to staff, residents, guests, and identified delivery people. Assure that all guests sign the visitor's log.

Minimum Qualifications

  • GED or high school diploma required.
  • For sites with meal service, ServSafe certificate at time of hire or willingness to attend class and pass test within the first 90 days.
  • Ability to establish trusting relationship with residents, understanding and respect for each individual's path to recovery.
  • Able to document work accurately and utilize a computer for email, calendar, and documentation.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience working in behavioral health and/or homelessness.
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention and de-escalation
  • Peer Specialist Certification
  • Bilingual (Spanish) a plus
  • Valid Driver's license
  • Experience working with Harm Reduction preferred.
