College Intern


Job Summary: 

The College Intern position is afforded to College Access Program students pursuing higher education who have been granted unpaid summer internship positions in their chosen career fields. The goal of this position is to provide students with funding so that they can accept unpaid positions that further their careers without the financial burden and barrier of working without pay. There are six (6) College Intern positions available. The rate is $12/hour for 40 hours a week and assumes the student will be working eight (8) weeks between June and August.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Obtains a summer internship in their chosen career field;
  • The internship must be UNPAID;
  • The internship must have a specific supervisor and tasks;
  • The internship can be up to 8 weeks long and up to 40 hours a week;
  • In order to be paid by Project HOME, the student must complete the same onboarding process a Project HOME staff member. This does not mean that the internship placement is at Project HOME (more than likely, it will not be).

Education and Experience Minimum Requirements:

Minimum Experience:

  • Must be an active student in the College Access Program (this includes participating in all CAP events unless there are extenuating circumstances);
  • Must be pursuing post-secondary education (including trade school, college, or graduate school).

Core Skills:

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with all levels of staff across departments.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, able to manage multiple projects at once while meeting deadlines effectively.
  • Able to prioritize tasks well and shift priorities.

Physical requirements:

Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.
