Summer Assistant Teacher - K-8


Job Summary: The K-8 Summer Assistant provides classroom support in the K-8 summer camp program. The Assistant is responsible for the supervision of children during summer camp trips.  Supports student learning and engagement in academic and life skills enrichment in a state-of-the-art, high-quality school aged childcare center. This position is only funded for the summer. This position has the option to transfer into a school year Assistant position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Create and nurture a welcoming, supportive and cooperative relationship with children, parents and staff 

  • Assist Lead Teacher in daily implementation of lesson plans and classroom activities:

  • working with children one-on-one or in small groups

  • maintain orderly management

  • Assist with set-up and clean-up of mealtimes and water play activities

  • Plan and/or implement lessons and activities in the Lead Teacher's absence

  • Supervise students on field trips

  • Participate in required professional development programs and staff meetings 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in Early Childhood Education, Human Services or other related fields, or equivalent experience (2 years). Proof of Education (diploma or transcript) required

  • Minimum 1 year validated childcare experience

  • FBI, Criminal History, Child Abuse and National Sex Offender Registry clearance required

  • Health Assessment with negative TB test required


What Qualifications or Experience You May Bring:

  • Experience working within and uplifting communities directly affected by systemic racism

  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record

  • Experience planning lesson and activity planning for School aged children

  • Awareness of developmental needs of elementary school student

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing

  • Excellent interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with staff, students, and parents 

Physical Requirements:

Active work involved in the care of children. This includes walking, climbing stairs, kneeling, and driving (if applicable). Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards. Must be able to walk short distances (1 mile or less).
