Coordinator - Residential Leadership

Job Summary: This position is designed to support the Mission Nurture team by ensuring that residents feel a deep connection to the idea that none of us are home until all of us are home and that residents have leadership opportunities to provide key feedback to ensure that Project HOME is living into its mission and values. To achieve this, the Resident Leadership Coordinator coordinates and supports the Resident Advisory Board (RAB), Tenant Councils, and the community activities planned by these groups; builds resident engagement, skills, and communication; and enhances community life through events and activities driven by the RAB.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Coordinate and support the Resident Advisory Board, Tenant Councils, and community activities

  • Plan, facilitate, and implement ideas stemming from monthly Resident Advisory Board (RAB) meetings
  • Support Tenant Council development and provide ongoing guidance as applicable
  • Develop a core of resident leaders, communicating organizational initiatives with them and seeking feedback; build leadership and recruit new residents into the Resident Advisory Board and other resident activities.
  • Support training opportunities for residents and support resident initiatives for the broader community

Build Resident Engagement, Skills, and Communication

  • Develop open communication with staff to ensure a connection and pathway to identify and engage new resident leaders.
  • Develop and implement tools to communicate with all residents about upcoming opportunities and avenues of personal development, including emails
  • Coordinate with internal communications for resident newsletter, calendar, electronic board and text magic as well as video and other media used by residents.
  • Communicate effectively across 18 different residences and across both oral and written cultures and a range of technical skills.
  • Ensure that Resident Communications are effective and two-way. Be sure that:
    • all communications are accessible and available to all residents
    • communications from residents reach staff and community at large
  • Work with training and other departments to develop and market training opportunities to residents that are meaningful and promote empowerment/recovery/leadership
  • Work with Residential and Property to administer resident survey each year.

Enhance Community Life:

  • Plan, facilitate, implement, and/or host regular or special community gatherings and holiday events
  • Develop and administer recreational, educational, and social activities that align with the goal of whole person wellness and/or mission-and-values related and resident-driven events (possible example: hire/manage a driver to do grocery shopping trips for residents at specific sites as needed)
  • Collaborate with external community resources to attract and develop innovative programming
  • Work with Program and Property Managers to encourage resident participation and involvement in scheduled events; track resident participation at RAB and measure benchmarks as applicable
  • Support resident participation in Mission Nurture activities including but not limited to Inspirational Meetings

Other duties:

  • Coordinate with Speakers Bureau as needed
  • Coordinate and share resident input/feedback for staff trainings, new initiatives, and Mission Nurture activities
  • Partner with Residential Services to plan annual priorities
  • Recruit and supervise interns to support our work

Minimum Required Qualifications

  • HS Diploma or GED and three years job experience, or equivalent skills and experience
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills
  • Experience building and coordinating teams of people to oversee and manage projects from conception to completion
  • Meeting, facilitation, and/or event planning experience with diverse groups
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Office
  • Commitment to social justice and nurturing relationships with people from all walks of life
  • Willingness to learn!

Preferred Qualifications

  • Lived experience of homelessness and poverty
  • Familiarity with the mission and history of Project HOME.
  • Understanding of political and social issues surrounding homelessness and poverty.
